Moab by Night

Sunset at Arches National Park in Moab UT

Learn How to Create Stunning Images at Night in Two Amazing National Parks!

Sep 28 - Oct 1, 2017

Two very different National Parks await your exploration in this workshop revolving mostly around night photography. Arches National Park is home to more than 2000 stone arches along with countless sand stone pinnacles and large balancing rocks. The often overlooked Canyonlands National Park is filled with canyons torn into the earths crust by the Colorado and Green Rivers and their tributaries. Join me and 9 other photographers as you learn and develop your skills as a night photographer. The majority of our shooting locations are within 500ft of the car with the exception of Mesa Arch. This is a half mile round trip from the parking lot on a mostly paved trail.

Workshop At A Glance

Three Nights of Shooting

Three nights in these two vast parks goes by so quickly! During this workshop you will learn everything you need to know about night landscape photography in some of the countries most amazing settings! We will see how moon phase and how that effects your imagery along with how to shoot an in camera star trail. The first night you will get some experience painting with light so you understand early on how light influences your imagery throughout the workshop.

Despite being primarily a night photography workshop, we will have a fair amount of sunset and even some midday adventures to learn how to shoot in the evolving light of day. During this time you will get experience using graduated neutral density filters to balance the light entering the camera at the time of your exposure along with how the see subject matter differently.

All of the locations on this workshop are within 1200ft of the parking lots.

Two Daytime Edit and Critique Sessions

My technique is centered around achieving the best in camera results possible, but that doesn't mean editing doesn't take place. The morning after our first night of shooting I will walk you through my process in Adobe Lightroom from import to export-and we will have an initial critique of our first nights images. Before we part ways on the last day we will get together again to address editing questions you may have and we will have a slideshow and critique of images you created during our excursion.
