Workshop At A Glance
Photography in Two of the World's Most Extreme Locations
Light Source Journeys is proud to bring you this one of a kind, all-inclusive* photography experience. During this workshop, we will visit Torres del Paine National Park in southern Chile in fall to photograph some of the most iconic mountains and unique wildlife on earth. The ever-changing weather combined with the approaching winter make for some amazing subject matter this time of year. By using graduated neutral density filters to balance the light entering the camera, you will learn how to best take advantage of the dynamic scenes you're presented with. During our visit to Torres del Paine we will be taking a boat ride for some close and personal photography with a glacier Including trying a Pisco Sour made with glacial ice and also take a horseback ride with Patagonian Gauchos.
For the second half of our trip, we head north to the driest place on the planet, the Atacama Desert. Despite some areas not seeing rain for more than 400 years and having a rate of evaporation 50 times faster than Death Valley, the Atacama Desert is home to a surprising amount of wildlife. That combined with otherworldly landscapes makes this an amazing destination to hone your photographic skills. Expect to see the sunset over colorful flamingos in shallow salt flats and the sunrise at world's highest geyser plane at over 14,000ft and surreal landscapes and wildlife like nowhere else on the planet.
Multiple Edit and Critique Sessions
After you take an amazing image, the job isn't done. Throughout the workshop, we will have both group and individual edit and critique sessions to show you how to get the most out of the images you are creating. I feel that these are crucial to helping people both grow as a photographer but also realize what their gear and images are capable of. We will also have an introductory slideshow to introduce you to the new areas and give you an idea what to expect in the coming days.
Don't Worry, I Didn't Forget About the Luxury!
Throughout the entire experience in Patagonia and the Atacama, we will be staying at Explora Hotels in 5-star luxury. All of the Explora properties are designed to fit into and work with the environments around them. The meals we eat are all expertly prepared by top chefs often using locally sourced ingredients and despite being three courses, they are designed for an active lifestyle. The whole time we will have guides with incredible local knowledge, trained in wilderness first aid and a private van and driver.
Deposits must be in by November 30, 2018
If you have a non-photographic spouse or significant other that would like to join us on this trip, we offer a non-photographic rate of $7795.
The remainder of the payment is due by January 25, 2019
The longest hikes on this trip will be roughly 4 miles round trip. The Atacama desert is high altitude and because of this, our itinerary is paced to allow for acclimatization.
